By Melvin Browne

beyonce-12-01_652x408The Bitches really have to Bow down Now lol! Just days ago Beyoncé’s most controversial music release of “BOW DOWN/I BEEN ON” is now followed by even more news. Beyoncé and Mega Retailer H&M have joined forces for their International Summer Campaign.

The summer campaign features swimwear and beachwear pieces – including a bikini from the H&M for Water collection, which raises money for WaterAid. The print adverts will launch alongside an accompanying television commercial – featuring a new Beyoncé song, “Standing On The Sun”.

Beyoncé told Vogue News.. “I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind.”  ”It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial.”

Get into YET another Sample of what Beyoncé has in store for the world this Summer!

Either way experiment with your own judgment when styling your STRIPED Looks; no one wants to see a jigsaw puzzle walking down the street. Get into the MOST seen trend on the Runways this Spring.

New Fashions are IN, Tim Gunn & Heidi Klum are OUT!

By Stephfon Guidry

Tim Gunn is out on the Revolution with ABC¸ Heidi Klum is sashaying into Motherhood over model land, and yet Lifetime says the sewing must go on with Project Runway All Stars (Season 10)! Project Runway is back with a new season, a completely new panel, and more money and prizes than ever before. Season 10 of the show brings back 13 of its top contenders to cut, sew, zip and slay us with new fits and fashions.

The contestants include fan favorites like Rami, Sweat P, Austin Scarlet, Mondo, April, Anthony W. (Couture, Country, & Classy), Michael C., Elisa (No spitting please), Kara, Gordana, Mila, Jerrell, and Kinley.  The judges are industry pros Issac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman, and Angela Lindvall—she’s no Heidi.  The Guest Judges this season will make fashionistas drool Diane von Fürstenburg, Miss Piggy, Badgley & Mischka, Erica Daman, Pharrell Williams and many more. The winner will take home a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position as guest editor for one year, a collection of Brother sewing equipment, an office by HP and Intel, to sell their line in select Neiman Marcus stores and on their website, and a cash prize of $100,000 from L’Oreal Paris.

The Catwalk Competition is heightened and the designers are hungrier than ever to rip this Lifetime Runway up with something new. The past three episodes featured the unconventional challenge (designing from the 99 cents store), evening gown challenge (creating couture for a night at the Opera) and designing for a Diva, Miss Piggy the Muppet no less. While we have lost Sweat P, Elisa, and Gordana the designers are grabbing at pins and needles to whip up clean cut captivating fashions for the new judges. The show is rejuvenated with its new spins and Joanna Coles guidance in the workroom. Since she will be working with the winner it is invaluable advice to work with her and head her observations.

Tune in to Lifetime on Thursdays 9 p.m. ET or catch up on this season at LifetimeTv.com!

Dark Times for BET Hip-Hop Awards – Black Carpet

By Ibrahim Malik

I’m glad BET did a black carpet because last night’s BET HIP HOP Awards show black carpet was a red carpet’s funeral and leading the procession was WORST Dressed Diamond  giving “Ho in Morning” tease and Rick Ross embodied the entire sky. I swear I commend anyone who writes a best and worst dressed list for the BET Awards because I want to give them all “F’s”. Seriously, Did we expect an eye-catching “Black Carpet” with absentee Divas like Beyoncé, Rihanna, or Nicki Minaj or even the Faux Divas Ciara or Keri Hilson. Diamond looked like a combination of Black swan and the wicked witch of the South. It makes me think WWRD = ‘WhatWouldRihannaDo”? for her Rated R album.  Wale <> Let’s give him three claps that his dreds finally reached his shoulders but #Lowkey he was looking sexy.

Diana Ross needed to come get her kids; Closet Case Evan Ross was serving Homeless Chic, while his big sister Tracee Ellis Ross was “Almost” Best Dressed. She had a great outfit but just decided to steal some horseshoes and painted the bottom red LONGhairREDbottoms. Tracee’s co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner was a breath of fresh air for the guys with a youthful clean look, definitely Best Dressed Male.   NELLY wins my SEXIEST Rapper Alive award, I mean his style was hood and basic but still sexy—He stayed true to his personal style. Honoree LL Cool J who normally brings his Sexy Swagger appeared to have just rolled out of bed and licked his lips and he was dressed. I am at a loss of words when it comes to the Da Brat, I didn’t get it but it’s definitely her Style.  Others such as Big Sean & Ace Hood, were the rappers standard. I would’ve preferred them to be shirtless or in “Big” Sean case with no pants. And to sum up everyone else, just think tight and tacky for the ladies and jeans, t-shirt & Bling for the fellas. BET please GET IT TOGETHER for next year! the BET Hip Hop Awards Encore airs This Friday, October 14th 9PM/8C

No Shows at the Award Show

By Stephfon Guidry

BET Hip Hop Awards entertained, opened ears and made you laugh; it mended a friendship that was long overdue for some forgiveness.  Truly da King of the South is the rubber band man, as T.I. bounced back with flexing (iHope he didn’t FLEX too much in jail) rhymes and his classic swagger the crowd welcomed his return. Atlantic Civic Center opened its doors to urban hip hop legends Heavy D, DMX, Da Brat and more.

First let me dish out all those tweeting #WINNING from their velvet seats last night:  Chris Brown took four awards all for his club banging, douging hit “Look at Me Now”, Lil Wayne scored meager two awards #IdemandAreCOUNT, Nicki Minaj won two as well and Kanye West, Jay-Z, Waka Floka Fame and more. Rap titan himself nominated for a dominating 18 nods receiving only two, Lil Wayne aka Lil Tunchi, gripped the coveted Lyricists of Year and Best Live Performer awards.  Rihanna found the love enough to comment positively on Chris Brown’s night of #WINNING, “It’s incredible to see how he pulled out the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him.”  (Msn.com) Performances that turned heads and kept the crowd fresh on the beat from the most notable Cyphers: Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Maybach Music Group, and Chris Breezy himself.   As the heavyweight lover grabbed the mic it took the show back to 1988 hits, beats, and a groove Heavy D a Hip Hop legend rocked the mic right.

“It ain’t a red carpet. It’s a sidewalk, bloody from the wolves eating red meat, and these spotlights don’t come with money — they come with police,” spoke LL Cool J to a rapt audience hanging on every word. LL Cool J challenged the newcomers to the game to use their mic for a message leaving the award show and hip hop with a charge of a new direction GLEE.

BET New Sitcom “Reed Between the Lines”

Following the Hip Hop Awards or Hood Honors premiered the black sitcom “Reed between the Lines”, featuring the talents of Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross. Daughter of the Diva and the quintessential only son of the most iconic African American family in television history (the Cosby Show, if you don’t know you have lived under a rock for eons!) come together to create their own merging of laughs, love and life lessons on a show all about the black family of today facing its problems together. Reed Between the lines l isn’t an open book or a NY Best seller and it needs some time to grow—yet the actors’ chemistry flows through the screen.  The show provides some comedy, casting that gives young and seasoned black actors a chance; Ross gives a convincing psychologist and Warner plays a professor eloquently.  I predict, Reed between the Lines potentially may tackle everything from maintaining marriage intimacy, raising children, keeping a family together, and life with friends as well as life with family—Ross and Warner just snagged a viewer in me. So tune in to BET on Tuesdays at 10 ET p.m. and catch “Reed Between the Lines”.

From the Court to the Runway: Ballers and Fashion

By Ibrahim Malik

Front rows aren’t just reserved for Fashionistas and Editors, but Ballers are front and center at the all the Hottest Shows. Athletes are trading their cleats and jerseys for designer labels. No longer are the days when athletes splurge, million dollar contract just on Fast Cars and even Faster Women (on some Boys too) but invest in Tailored suits and custom kicks. Michael Jordan is a household name not just because of his sick jump shot but his Iconic Shoes. Nowadays athletes like Amare Stoudemire, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and DeWayne Wade are exceeding way beyond just a shoe endorsement. This past New York Fashion week, they towered over in the front rows at shows such as Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Bastian, and others. These fashion houses and designers look at it as a true win-win situation giving an easy mainstream appeal.  Joe Zee, Creative Director of Elle even contributed “In the last few years, fashion shows have become as much a spectator sport as about the fashion, with blinding paparazzi snapping celebs in every front row.”

Lockouts in the NFL and now the NBA, allow ballers more time to divert their attention from the court to fashion. It is been a true emergence of athletes showing of the impeccable physiques in amazing editorials and eye-catching ads. We still won’t forget Kobe Bryant Amish-Inspired 2010 photo shoot in LA Times Magazine. More recently Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade have spreads in Vogue Italia and VMan respectively. So if this current lockout doesn’t turn out so hot, they can fall back on Modeling (so LaLa and Gabrielle Union don’t fret). Amare Stoudemire turned his hustle up a notch with his current collaboration with Rachel Roy. “I was never a designer or anything like that, but as far as putting together what I was going to wear, I was a fashion rebel, always mixing it up,” said Stoudemire. The collection itself is meant to be the best of both worlds: Fashion & Sports. Rachel Roy had this to say about their line “What does Gisele wear when she goes to see her man [New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady] play? What would Kate Moss wear? Those images are the inspiration as we’re designing.” It’s a toss-up when the next NBA season will start but the players just might be changing in the locker rooms from shorts to tailored shirts by designers from around the globe.

DW gets the #KanyeShrug

By Ibrahim Malik

DW by Kanye West Spring/Summer 2012 Ready-to-wear Collection premiered at this year’s Paris Fashion Week. The front row was adorned with fellow designers, and celebrities such as Alexander Wang, Dean and Dan Caton of Dsquared, Jeremy Scott, Anna Wintour, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, clearly his show was definitely anticipated by all. After his previous successful collaborations with Louis Vuitton and Nike, that bar was set pretty high but unfortunately he was a day late and a dollar short.

Possessing a raw edge the collection lacked a certain level of cohesiveness one would expect from a designer showing at Paris Fashion Week. DW serves too many silhouettes that alone are effortless but together clash (think Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston).  The collection failed to give direction or ability to transfer a story to the audience. Viewers were left not knowing what type of woman Kanye was catering and where she was going. Noteworthy Online Style Editor of International Herald Tribune Jessica Michault, had this to say “The Kanye West show, in my humble opinion, is proof that everyone can love fashion but not everyone can be a fashion designer.”

Needless to say DW had some looks that were Stunning, supermodel Chanel Iman executed both first and closing looks. One in tight leather black pants, sheer black blouse and an oversized fur stole and the other being its polar opposite in an all-white ensemble with cropped trousers, knit top and loose fitting blazer. The shoes in the collection created quite the twitter buzz that would even leave Carrie Bradshaw gushing. Given that this is Mr. Controversy himself, Yezzy had this to say:

“Thank you for anybody that didn’t believe, because they motivated us to break our boundaries… We don’t know what the reviews will be; we don’t know what they will say… I gave you everything that I had”

“This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow. This is not some celebrity s**t. I don’t f**k with celebrities…The amount of people that tried to get me a celebrity f**king deal. They said, ‘You need to do boot-cut jeans, or you won’t sell.’ Shut the f**k up!”

“I thank anybody who came to this party, everybody who supported, everybody who believed, because people thought it was a joke, and maybe people still do, but I can only grow from this point.”

Honestly in my professional opinion I believe if Kanye channels the correct spirit and tenacity he has in his other ventures, DW certainly has the POTENTIAL to ascend to greatness and the next Throne Kanye will be watching is the Fashion Empire!!!
