2. Stripes

Vertical or Horizontal, Designers this Year made it clear that stripes are In. Usually reserved for mid-summer for fourth of July and nautical looks, spring boasts premature lines of masculinity and focus. Some designers went OVERBOARD with full coverage, while others used stripes in main pieces to establish focus to that particular place on the male form. Either way experiment with your own judgment when styling your STRIPED Looks; no one wants to see a jigsaw puzzle walking down the street. Get into the MOST seen trend on the Runways this Spring.

3. Camouflage

Most can agree that Military Camouflage never goes out of style. It Intertwines throughout the Seasons and brings a hint of masculinity to any look. If US Soldiers can fight all year in the same Head to Toe Fashions, I’m sure we all can fit this Macho but yet Sexy trend into out wardrobe. This Spring, Designers used traditional Camouflage but also experimented with the abstract shapes and introduced some new shade combinations. Either Way Suit up, and get into these Runway Camouflage Looks.

From the Court to the Runway: Ballers and Fashion

By Ibrahim Malik

Front rows aren’t just reserved for Fashionistas and Editors, but Ballers are front and center at the all the Hottest Shows. Athletes are trading their cleats and jerseys for designer labels. No longer are the days when athletes splurge, million dollar contract just on Fast Cars and even Faster Women (on some Boys too) but invest in Tailored suits and custom kicks. Michael Jordan is a household name not just because of his sick jump shot but his Iconic Shoes. Nowadays athletes like Amare Stoudemire, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and DeWayne Wade are exceeding way beyond just a shoe endorsement. This past New York Fashion week, they towered over in the front rows at shows such as Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Bastian, and others. These fashion houses and designers look at it as a true win-win situation giving an easy mainstream appeal.  Joe Zee, Creative Director of Elle even contributed “In the last few years, fashion shows have become as much a spectator sport as about the fashion, with blinding paparazzi snapping celebs in every front row.”

Lockouts in the NFL and now the NBA, allow ballers more time to divert their attention from the court to fashion. It is been a true emergence of athletes showing of the impeccable physiques in amazing editorials and eye-catching ads. We still won’t forget Kobe Bryant Amish-Inspired 2010 photo shoot in LA Times Magazine. More recently Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade have spreads in Vogue Italia and VMan respectively. So if this current lockout doesn’t turn out so hot, they can fall back on Modeling (so LaLa and Gabrielle Union don’t fret). Amare Stoudemire turned his hustle up a notch with his current collaboration with Rachel Roy. “I was never a designer or anything like that, but as far as putting together what I was going to wear, I was a fashion rebel, always mixing it up,” said Stoudemire. The collection itself is meant to be the best of both worlds: Fashion & Sports. Rachel Roy had this to say about their line “What does Gisele wear when she goes to see her man [New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady] play? What would Kate Moss wear? Those images are the inspiration as we’re designing.” It’s a toss-up when the next NBA season will start but the players just might be changing in the locker rooms from shorts to tailored shirts by designers from around the globe.

TOP Male SuperModels!

By Ibrahim Malik

Photographers hunger to see these physiques in front of their camera lenses and designers swoon as these men don their garments. You see them everywhere, in campaigns, on the catwalk, and on billboards, are you ready for some of my Favorite TOP Male SuperModels.

Rob Evans is captured raw and tastefully in his latest cK One Ad he gives a TKO to the fashion and modeling world. Discovered in a local gym, 22-year-old Irish-African American Boxer turned model from UK–Evan’s knockout looks demanded attention in his first season with Givenchy Men’s spring/summer 2011 show. Rob Evan’s slayed the international runways of  Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, Jean Paul Gaultier Men’s, Trussardi, and Jeremy Scott, landed major ad campaigns with House of Frasier, cK One Jeans, ck One Shock Fragrance, and features in magazines such as i-D , Numero Tokyo, and Vogue Hommes Japan. Rob is proving up to be just as strong a contender on the catwalk and in front of the camera, as he is in the boxing ring.

————————————————————————————————————————————-

Andre Douglas–The caramel beauty with his classic all-around American Looks has landed many major campaigns like Dsquared2, Saks Fifth Avenue, Brooks Brothers, Tommy Hilfiger and Macy’s. The Chicago born model said to OUT Magazine, “Fortunately, I’ve been blessed in this industry to where I’m not struggling and I’m able to work with a wide variety of clients. But I do know that this journey and where I’ve made it is not owed to me by any means, so I take it as a blessing and I’m thankful every day”. Originally André Douglas had no interest in Fashion or Modeling at all, even turned down offers to play division one basketball, but luckily for us he accepted his gift.

———————————————————————————————————————-

My jaw dropped while gazing at Calvin Klein Men’s spring/ summer 2010 ad where David Agbodji BARED IT ALL!! in a Glistening Nude campaign. This chocolate Adonis first caught the eye of the Fashion and Modeling world when he not only opened but closed the spring/ summer 2010 Calvin Klein Men’s Show, which led to him becoming the face of Calvin Klein. Ever since his career has catapulted into greatness, David Agbodji models for countless campaigns, catwalks, and fashion spreads his most notable being, Cole Haan, D&G, Hugo Boss, Vivienne Westwood, Mugler, Hermes, & Jean Paul Gaultier.

Whether it’s their Chiseled Bodies or Enamoring Looks these men are proving that they are the SHIT Phenomenal Models!!

FALL’s FAB FIVE: 5 Fab Pieces for your Closet!

By Ibrahim Malik

Summer is unfortunately over. It’s time to trade in those tank tops and shorts for some thermals and a parka. Don’t fret about what to put in between, I got five pieces that’ll bring the HAUTENESS (pun intended) to your fall wardrobe.

1. Slim Fit Cords
a slim fit cord is a great alternative to your everyday pair of jeans, with the same versatility and comfort. They pair easily with a fitted denim shirt or plaid flannel. If you don’t own any, I suggest a tan or light Brown pair; it is a great starter color that works wonderfully with many fall staples like your navies, maroons and Olives.

2. Pea coat
A classic Navy Pea Coat has been staple in the closets of Fashionistas and Sailors alike for a LONG TIME!!!! And they still haven’t lost their appeal. But if you are one to break out of the Fashion “Norm” this classic cone in other great colors and plaids that add to its Chic appeal. My personal fave is a Light Grey Pea.  The Light Grey has a clean effortless look that can be dress up or down. It’s also a great homage to military inspired fashion.

3. Gingham Print
One of the biggest fall trends is mixing different patterns and textures; one of the easiest and fabulous ways of doing that is with Gingham. It comes in many variations whether it’s a sport button down collar shirt or a dress shirt that comes in many great colors. I have a client who is a young fashionable elementary teacher, I paired a burnt orange spread collar dress shirt with a purple striped tie and some slim fit khaki chinos. It was a great look that embodied the fall trend and he could have easily went from day to-night, and it all began with a versatile gingham shirt.

4.  Shawl Collar Sweater
The bottom line for any fall wardrobe is warmth point-blank, and the best way to accomplish that is layering. Just like the Pea coat I mentioned before the wool Sweater has been here for years on end, but I’m not talking about those itchy sweaters you mother used to put you in. A Shawl Collar sweater not only serves as an amazing layering piece but it gives you an effortless cool. It works well in the office or going out for a couple cocktails with friends.

5. Chukka Boot
A chukka is the perfect way to finish off a fall ensemble. It’s more casual than a dress boot and way less chunkier than a pair of Timberlands (c) . I really like these boots because they pay homage to the classic collegiate style. They pair well with slim fitting trousers, whether chinos or denim,  gives a very casual yet chic feel.

Editor’s Pick: Top 5 #NYFW Menswear Collections!

By Melvin Browne

Unfortunately Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has come to an END! The last time I reviewed #NYFW was back in 2009, so I definitely took my time to review this year’s Menswear Collections. #dontjudgeme but I was very disappointed! **For you special people my review does not include Paris and Milan Shows.. just NYC**. For designers to be showing for spring 2012, I expected the collections to be way more innovative. Some designers delivered great sportswear collections, but I still felt like the simplest women’s Ready-to-wear collections demolished the existences of menswear in New York. With that said here are my Top 5 NYFW Spring 2012 Menswear Collections:

1. Buckler

2. Nicholas K

3. Lacoste

4. Perry Ellis

Mark Sanchez Covers September Issue of GQ!

By Melvin Browne

New York JETS Quarterback Mark Sanchez covered the Fall Fashion Issue of GQ Magazine. Here is an excerpt and photos from the cover story.

GQ Writers asked Jets head coach Rex Ryan if he would consider  benching Mark Sanchez. Yes, Ryan said—he would. “Rex is super honest,” Sanchez  says. “I wish he wasn’t that honest at times, especially to say that.”

Before the next practice, Sanchez was informed that Ryan wanted to give extra  reps to Sanchez’s backup and friend Mark Brunell. Ominous. Sanchez nodded like a  good soldier, but on the practice field, when Brunell walked into the huddle,  Sanchez pushed him away.  Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer approached.  He repeated that Ryan wanted Brunell to take extra reps. “I was like, ‘He can  come tell me,’ “ Sanchez says. ”And [Schottenheimer] is like, ‘Come on, man,  don’t do that.’”

Eventually the crisis passed. Sanchez held his ground, kept his job, and  managed not to alienate his friend. But the episode remains something of a sore  point with Sanchez. In a locker room where everything is a laughing matter,  Sanchez hasn’t yet joked with Ryan about that almost-benching. And he doesn’t  expect to. “I wanted to fight him,” Sanchez says. “I was really mad.” Read More

SABIT NYC Kick of #NYFW at the Samsung Experience!

By Melvin Browne
Photos By Mia Marcus

SABIT NYC kicked off New York Fashion Week friday night with a presentation of their F/W 2011 & S/S 2012 Collections. Held at the Samsung Experience, Designer Shoichi Amemiya executed a simple but yet entertaining show. The event was hosted by “Bosslady” and included a special performance from Eric Sosa & the Maintenance Crew.

The SABIT Label has come along way since the last time we saw them back in March of  2010. The face of SABIT - Swizz Beats put the label in the fore front for A-list celebrities like Chris Brown, lil Wayne, T.I., T-Pain and Mario to take notice to the label. SABIT has  quickly become one of the most influential and sought-after urban brands in the market today. The **Hot Item** is  their Varsity Jackets, which we have seen consistently in every collection. The F/W 11 was our favorite collection this year, their were matching accessories & bags with most looks. The collection gave me very street Tokyo and we definitely look forwardto the future SABIT NYC Collections!

S/S Menswear Collection Report: Marc Jacobs

By Michael Kowalinski

Collection: Marc Jacobs (Mens)
Designer: Marc Jacobs
Season: Spring/Summer 2011

Is it a cliché to call Marc Jacobs the arbiter of cool? Yes, perhaps, but we don’t mind, because he has done it again, this time in a subdued, but no less effective, way. Admittedly, we can’t help ourselves, and even though the number of offerings was small it made sense as the collection could be called the very definition of restraint.

Black narrow fitting suiting with cropped pants were shown alongside flashes of army green, in a jacket with epaulettes and cargo pants. A leather short-sleeved shirt that zipped up the front made a cameo that is at the top of our lists.

Was this Jacobs’ way of getting back to the basics? “Restraint” and “effective” are our words to live by once again.

S/S 2011 Menswear Collection Report: Yves Saint Laurent

By Michael Kowalinski

Collection: Yves Saint Laurent
Designer: Stefani Pilati
Season: Spring/Summer 2011

Stefano Pilati’s spring collection for Yves Saint Laurent had a feminine spirit to it that will fulfill the desires of the chicest young men, if they can afford it. Pilati seemed to have an obsession with the waist, but this was a healthy obsession you won’t read about in trash mags. Collared shirts, one with a printed panel in the front, had large bands similar to cummerbunds around the midriff, at times in a leopard print. In one instance, a leopard band emerged from underneath a collared shirt that cropped. These bands made their way onto long single-breasted jackets when they weren’t belted. A sleeveless jacket was belted and had a ruthlessly masculine feeling, which flowed seamlessly with the femininity throughout. Dotted prints and high waisted pleated shorts were memorable and helped to cement this collection as one of the strongest of the season. It takes a certain level of know-how to design these clothes, which Pilati has in spades, but also an equally clever attitude to wear them. That Stefano Pilati, he’s one clever guy.
