Nicki Minaj Covers WMagazine Art & Fashion Issue!

By Melvin Browne

Hip-Hop Artist Nicki Minaj covers the November Issue of W Magazine for their ART & FASHION issue. Dressed in Haute Couture dresses by Versace and Dior, Art Director Francesco Vezzoli details his inspiration behind this 18th Century masterpiece.

Francesco Vezzoli was asked what perked his interest when it came to working with Nicki Minaj, to which he replied, “I wanted to play with the public image of a female hip-hop star. During my entire career, I have always been fascinated by powerful women in history. I have spent a lot of time researching the ways they were represented in art and how their images were used to mold the public imagination—and to convey aesthetic and philosophical ideas about beauty and sexual desire. My main interest has been to link the historical artistic approach to female representation to contemporary icons of the media era. For W, I wanted to turn the lovely Nicki Minaj into a powdered 18th-century courtesan.”

He also details how he was able to transform Nicki Minaj into the perfect image, Francesco said, “In her performances, Minaj makes very explicit and challenging use of her beauty and her body, so I thought of comparing her to some of the most famous courtesans in history: the Marquise de Montespan, Comtesse du Barry, Madame de Pompadour, and Madame Rimsky-Korsakov. My idea was to reproduce four iconic portraits of some of the most fascinating females of the past in a series starring an American pop-culture role model. We tried to re-create those original portraits using similar furniture, props, and clothing, à la Visconti. Luckily enough, the result came out as surreal as it could be, just as I wished.”

Nicki Minaj is really advancing her career and revolutionizing what it means to be an Artist. W Magazine is recognized worldwide as Fashion’s Bible with pictures. Recognize and Appreciate her TALENT… Enjoy!

Leonardo DiCaprio Covers GQ October Issue!

By Melvin Browne

GQ’s Cover Man for the October issue is outstanding Actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Check Out some photos from the spread and what Leo had to say to the Editors. Enjoy!

“Throughout my career, I never knew which movies of mine made money and which didn’t. When Titanic came out, people would say, ‘Do you realize what a success this is?’ And I’d say, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s a hit.’ The [money] stuff never mattered to me until I was into my thirties and got interested in producing, and people would show me charts explaining what finances a movie, what you’ll make from foreign, what you’ll make from domestic, what you need to make an R-rated film that’s a comedy versus a drama. But even now I say that unless you want to prove that you can carry a film with your name, continuously trying to achieve box-office success is a dead end.”

“My introduction to acting in films was with De Niro in This Boy’s Life. When I got the part I was 15, and somebody said, ‘Do you realize who you’re gonna work with?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I guess.’ And they said, ‘No, no, no. Go watch all of his films, and then go see these people’s films.’ So I obsessively watched films on VHS, and I remember feeling so overwhelmed by what had been done in cinema already. Watching a young Brando or James Dean or Montgomery Clift, I was like, Oh, my God, how can anyone ever hope to achieve that type of greatness?”

“For my generation, it’s always the ’70s. That period where you felt like the hands were being dealt back in the director’s favor. The studios realized that letting them tell their stories was something the audience had a hunger for. And of course, it all went awry. [They both laugh.] Taxi Driver to me is the ultimate independent-movie performance. Playing a character like Travis Bickle is every young actor’s wet dream.”

“My father has always been a huge force with me. I had passed on a script about the French poet Arthur Rimbaud [Total Eclipse]. He explained to me that Rimbaud was the James Dean of his time—a radical who took on the institution of poetry and turned it upside down. I did the movie, and I loved playing him. If I just waited for moments of I have to do this, I would do a movie only every four or five years.”

Mark Sanchez Covers September Issue of GQ!

By Melvin Browne

New York JETS Quarterback Mark Sanchez covered the Fall Fashion Issue of GQ Magazine. Here is an excerpt and photos from the cover story.

GQ Writers asked Jets head coach Rex Ryan if he would consider  benching Mark Sanchez. Yes, Ryan said—he would. “Rex is super honest,” Sanchez  says. “I wish he wasn’t that honest at times, especially to say that.”

Before the next practice, Sanchez was informed that Ryan wanted to give extra  reps to Sanchez’s backup and friend Mark Brunell. Ominous. Sanchez nodded like a  good soldier, but on the practice field, when Brunell walked into the huddle,  Sanchez pushed him away.  Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer approached.  He repeated that Ryan wanted Brunell to take extra reps. “I was like, ‘He can  come tell me,’ “ Sanchez says. ”And [Schottenheimer] is like, ‘Come on, man,  don’t do that.’”

Eventually the crisis passed. Sanchez held his ground, kept his job, and  managed not to alienate his friend. But the episode remains something of a sore  point with Sanchez. In a locker room where everything is a laughing matter,  Sanchez hasn’t yet joked with Ryan about that almost-benching. And he doesn’t  expect to. “I wanted to fight him,” Sanchez says. “I was really mad.” Read More
