Adam Lambert Covers the Advocate

By Melvin Browne

Adam Lambert pompously covers The Advocate November Issue. In the piece, titled “Reinventing Adam Lambert,” the singer details the songs on his upcoming album due spring of 2012. Adam details to Advocate editors that his new creation will be more personal with a “Nine Inch Nails meets George Michael” vibe, “I know that’s a weird mash-up, but that’s what it feels like”. “I think it’s going to let people underneath my facade a little bit — a self-created and totally admitted facade. I’m trying to convey to my audience that you really can’t judge a book by its cover, and there’s more to the universe than you can see with your eyes. It’s like existential pop.”

Adam stated his attitude about his place as a gay cultural figure, eventually asking: “Where’s there balance for me? I’m a musician and I’m writing music. I’m also becoming more involved sociopolitically, I’m getting involved with the Trevor Project and Equality California — these are things that I really do care about. But I do want to maintain a balance. What am I going to be known for in 15 years? I want to be known for my music, that’s my art.” Check Out the Photos from A Day in the Gay America!

HomoCouture Supports #SpiritDay

HomoCouture supports Spirit Day! Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. Getting involved is easy — participants are asked to simply “go purple” on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are. Obama Supports Gay Pride Month

By Katrina Robinson

In another positive move for the homosexual community, President Barack Obama has proclaimed June as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.

This proclamation follows a string of positive turns of event for homosexuality. Gay Pride Month may just be the thing we need to see a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, the passing of the Employee Nondiscrimination Act, and an end to the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the military.

But this isn’t the first time that June has been announced as Gay Pride Month. Bill Clinton made the same move for the first time in 2000, and Obama did so last year. Notice how I left out George W. Bush? Yeah, that’s because he never made such an announcement.

Obama’s announcement on Friday, May 28th, discussed how his administration is pushing on through the journey for a “movement for fairness and equality” for the LGBT community.

Hopefully this is the first of many future pieces of good news that I can report.
