BGR on BET!

By Melvin Browne

BGR stands for Black Girls Rock, Beverly Bond’s philanthropic youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.

BGR spawned into the inspiring awards show of the same name. BGR! Celebrates the brilliance and beauty of Black women. This year’s show will be hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King. The night’s honorees include Grammy Award winning legendary gospel singer Shirley Caesar, Icon Angela Davis, Philanthropist and president of the WNBA Laurel Richie, Academy award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, and silver screen beauty Tatyana Ali.

The 2nd Annual Black Girls Rock Special will air on BET this Sunday, Nov. 6th
at 8P/7C!

HomoCouture Supports #SpiritDay

HomoCouture supports Spirit Day! Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. Getting involved is easy — participants are asked to simply “go purple” on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are.
